The Powell River is a pretty clean river. However, during high water, trash that has been left along the riverbank upstream can be washed into the river. One spot on our property was a magnet for tires and other trash. There were years of accumulation. With help from neighbors and grandkids one Saturday morning, a sandy beach was cleared of 53 tires and a half ton of other trash.
On another occasion, with the Powell River flowing at over 12,000 cubic feet of water per second and moving at about 14 feet per second, we filled our kayaks with trash picked from the flow.
